About 3 months ago, I posted a photo of a 500 square foot tiny house on <a href="http://www.instagram.com/bigran82" target="_blank">my instagram</a>. Something about a small living space really interests me. The idea of just using it to do the basic things in life. Something like this would most definitely encourage you to get outdoors more and live more.

In the comments, one of my friends said I should talk to Trevor Gay from Heart Of It All House. I had never heard of him before, so my curiosity led me to his profile where I did some basic research on him and what he was up to. Turns out he only lives about 30 minutes away, we have mutual friends, and share a lot of common interests. I wondered how we never crossed paths over the years!

<blockquote>If you're someone like myself (who doesn't consider himself naturally gifted or talented at anything) who has had to work as hard as you possibly could for the things that you have and the things that you've done, that's when hustle is extremely important. Because without it, you're not moving, you're at a standstill.</blockquote>

<blockquote>Know how to sell yourself at all times and to preserve your self image. That's why your word is so important, because in the end, that's all you have.</blockquote>

<blockquote>I do believe that if you surround yourself with the things that you want to be attracted to you, things just inevitably end up working out that way. And it's not magic, it's just the power of networking.</blockquote>

<blockquote>I've always had all these side brands but they were safe because I had my 9-5. Stepping out of that comfort zone, ya, that's a scary thing.</blockquote>

<blockquote>Without a doubt, I think that just seeing those goals in front of you when you wake up and when you go to sleep are powerful. And it's not magic, it's just literally seeing your goals everyday and that's a simple reminder of what you're working towards. Ask yourself, "Have I done anything today to work towards that goal?" And if you say no, well, there's your motivation right there as soon as you get out of bed.</blockquote>

[52:15] How important is it to have a significant other with the same goals?

You still have this fear of making mistakes or looking bad, especially now with how vulnerable we are through social media.</blockquote>

<blockquote>Your morals and your ethics will really show what kind of person you are when you fail or when you make a mistake.</blockquote>

On this episode, Eric Zimmer explains how he has always had the entrepreneur mindset. From a paperboy to owning a small landscaping company to working in various small startups to starting his own companies and so much more.

But all that could have been cut short as he developed a nasty drug problem early on. Luckily for him, he was able to kick that habit and create a lot of success for himself!

At the beginning of 2014, he launched The One You Feed Podcast, and by the end of the year, he was voted one of the Best of iTunes Podcasts of 2014. But it doesn't stop there, he also does e-commerce consulting for large businesses on huge projects.

<blockquote>When you're starting a company, you have to build what you can with what you have.</blockquote>

[06:45] How were you able to get sober?

<blockquote>I hit a point where I just had no idea what else to do. No idea of the next step, so I checked myself into treatment. Something happened in that period where I started to get a little bit of hope, that maybe I could live a different way. So I threw myself into that pretty hard, and that was really all I was focused on for at least a year and a half.</blockquote>

[07:40] Did family or friends or a mentor help you get through all of this?

[08:00] Tell us about your award-winning podcast...

<blockquote>An old grandfather told his grandson, "My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, and resentment. The other is good. It is joy, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, and bravery." The boy thought about it, and asked, "Grandfather, which wolf wins?" The old man quietly replied, "The one you feed."</blockquote>

[09:30] What type of guests do you have on your show?

<blockquote>I interview anyone that I find interesting, who I think has something useful to say about how do we make good decisions. What do we think about and where do we spend our time, and that totally determines the quality of our life. And the show is focused on how can we do that better.</blockquote>

<blockquote>I didn't start the podcast to necessarily be a business. It would be good for me and i get to spend more time with my best friend. The fact that it blew up isn't the primary focus of why I'm doing it. It really started as a hobby more than anything else.</blockquote>

[11:40] What did you think of the Best of iTunes award?

[12:30] Talk about the solar energy biz you started...

<blockquote>The idea came from something I got interested in, I tend to follow my curiosity. I was at the library browsing around and saw a book on clean energy. I thought there was a great opportunity there and I thought that kind of work was really important.</blockquote>

<blockquote>I just hit a point where I didn't see the path forward from here, that I didn't think this was going to make me happy. So I just decided to change directions.</blockquote>

<blockquote>What's the point of owning your own company and doing your own thing if you're not enjoying it anymore?</blockquote>

[17:40] Started a non-profit at age 16...

<blockquote>It started when I just wanted to take some kids to the zoo, and it turned into something more. But my transition out of it was hastened by my problems with alcohol and drugs. So I sort of helped to kill that. That's certainly one of the regrets I have.</blockquote>

[19:20] Have you always had the entrepreneur mind?

<blockquote>If you can find someone who has a lot of credibility who will take you seriously, then to some degree you can leverage that credibility.</blockquote>

<blockquote>I think you're always projecting an image or you're selling something that's a little bit beyond where you are. There ends up being a gap between what you're out there selling and what you're capable of at that exact moment. I've known who Mike was for quite some time, but we didn't connect with each other until a year or two ago when he approached me to build a website for him. <blockquote>When I seen people getting tattoos of our logo, I knew we had created something bigger than ourselves. And that was a big moment for me.</blockquote>

<blockquote>Most other companies are bigger, and they have a marketing budget, but they don't have the passion as a line item or the creativity as a checkbox.</blockquote>

<blockquote>It was a big moment to see something I just saw in my head less than 2 years ago, on someone else's body, inked permanently. It was a very surreal moment.</blockquote>

<blockquote>You don't always get to hear you're right. But when my readers and my audience wear that shirt or get that tattoo or send a picture of their car in, that's them saying you're right.</blockquote>

<blockquote>You put a lot of time into building something, but when you build it for you, I believe you get that time back.</blockquote>

<blockquote>Multi-level marketing is people feeding off the drive that most people have to want to do something for themselves, but they haven't found what it is.</blockquote>

<blockquote>That same time and effort that you put into selling shit out of a catalog to your friends is the same amount of time you could be putting into building a company and something that you're proud of.</blockquote>

<blockquote>I feel like you've made it when you can pick and choose your clients.</blockquote>

<blockquote>The difference between freelancing and owning your own company that is successful is the ability to provide your service to a client who is a like-minded person who has the same quality about them.</blockquote>

<blockquote>At this point, it's much easier for me to say no because I've found the right companies and the right companies have found me.</blockquote>

When I recorded my first episode about 5-7 weeks ago, I knew I wanted to immerse myself into the world of podcasting. I was so nervous to record that first episode, but I'm so glad I did. A couple weeks after that, I launched the Risk Without Regret podcast on iTunes and I was humbled by how many people around the world cared about it. As soon as the first few episodes went live, I knew I was going to do a recap of everything after the first month. Well, here it is.

I start the episode off with a couple books I am in love with (<a href="http://www.riskwithoutregret.com/steal" target="_blank">Steal Like an Artist</a> and <a href="http://www.riskwithoutregret.com/friends" target="_blank">How to Win Friends & Influence Others</a>), then I lead into some stats over the past month. I'm really excited with how well everything is going, which just fuels my passion for all of this even more. And almost daily, people are commenting about it, or sending me messages on Facebook, or sharing on Twitter, or calling/texting me about it. I try not to have any regrets in life, but if I had to have one, it would be that I wish I started all of this sooner. But here we are, one month in, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for the RWR podcast!

The tried and true advice in this book, from over 75 years ago, will help you think differently and change the way you treat others. On this short episode, I talk about this inspiring quote I found: Always Deliver More Than Expected. I think more businesses should listen to this and really think of some quick and easy ways they can do more. These ideas will help them stand out from their competitors and literally cost almost nothing. But it can leave a lasting impression on the customer/client.

If your customer is surprised in a good way when you deliver something to them, they will become fanatical and want to tell everyone they know and post on social media about it, which could attract strangers to your brand, which could turn into customers. It's all about building brand loyalty and here are some ways. Enjoy!
